Pattern Review :: Vogue 8723

I recently made this gorgeous summer dress using the Vogue V8723 pattern. This was the first time I had used this pattern and I must say it was really easy for a beginner. The fabric is 100% African Wax, a gift from my mum. I particularly loved the fact that the pattern contained options for different bust sizes in one pack. That way, I was able to customize the top half to get a better fit. The end result is fabulous! I can't wait to rock it this summer!

I also learned an important lesson about pattern placement on this project. The first time I made this dress, I was so eager to get started that I didn’t realize that the stars on the top bodice were not symmetrical. The second time around, I was able to place the pattern pieces correctly to get a better result.

 PATTERN REVIEW

Pattern Description:
Fit and Flare Dress, Fully Lined, with Side Seam Pockets. A, B, C and D cup sizes

Pattern Sizing:
Available in pattern sizes 8 - 22

Did the finished product look like the pattern photo?
Absolutely!

Were the instructions easy to follow?
Yes. The instructions were very easy to follow.

 What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
I loved that V8723 is a custom fit.  It contains several option for different bust sizes in one pack. However, I struggled with creating the skirt gathers with the sewing machine. I ended up creating the gathers by hand.

Fabric Used:
100% Cotton African Print. I chose a bold print with a border print to give the dress a little more wow factor.

Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
I followed the instructions exactly.

Would you sew it again?
Absolutely! I highly recommend V8723. It is a great wardrobe builder. You can make it with casual cotton fabrics for a great summer dress or with more formal fabrics for an awesome party dress.
